AI coding workbench — an agent that ships code in its own VM

A SvelteKit AI coding platform where every conversation provisions its own BoxLite microVM — a pi agent pairs with you inside it, streaming reasoning, tool calls and diffs as it works with bash, read, write and edit tools. GitHub OAuth with anonymous sessions, conversations persisted in Postgres, per-user concurrency caps. Its agent-side counterpart is Ompdeck, my cockpit for the same pi coding agent.

  • Every conversation gets its own microVM — BoxLite-provisioned, auto-stopped, capped at 3 concurrent per user
  • Streaming agent loop — text, thinking, tool calls and compaction surfaced live, abort wired straight to the session
  • Four sandboxed tools — bash, read, write and edit executing inside the VM, output truncated to fit context windows
  • Sessions that survive — GitHub OAuth + anonymous auth, every conversation and message persisted in Postgres
  • Performance pedigree — evolved from a 60fps virtual-scrolled, on-device-encrypted chat workspace

problem

Chatting with a coding agent means handing it your machine — or sandboxing it so hard it can't do anything.

approach

Built a workbench where each conversation provisions its own microVM: the pi agent gets bash, read, write and edit inside that box and nothing else, streamed live to the browser with sessions persisted in Postgres.

outcome

An agent that ships real code — with a hard trust boundary, resumable history, and per-user concurrency caps keeping the host safe.
